2016 hasn’t been the most cheerful year so far. Nevertheless, there is always a chance it will get better in the course of time. We believe that these upcoming cartoon movies will bring some joy to the young and old in 2016 and the years to follow.

1. Storks

Release: 09/23/16 Featuring: Andy Samberg, Kelsey Grammer Giving a new life to the famous fable about storks, this animated movie is the result of cooperation between Doug Sweetland and Nicholas Stoller who is also the author of the script. You may remember him from Fun with Dick and Jane and two last Muppets movies. Andy Samberg also is bound to make this cartoon unforgettable.

2. Trolls

Release: 11/4/2016 Featuring: Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand This movie will depict the story of a pair of trolls who, despite their different characters, will be put in the position where they have to work together. DreamWorks has also announced that Anna Kendrick will join the cast. We expect something spectacular from this eminent group of actors.

3. Moana

Release: 11/23/2016 Featuring: Dwayne Johnson, Auli’l Carvalho This musical adventure film will follow a journey of a young woman navigator who embarks on an adventure to find a fabled island. She will be accompanied by the legendary demi-god Maui. Everyone is waiting with bated breath to see this exciting adventure.

4. Sing

Release: 12/21/2016 Featuring: Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon The impressive cast of this musical will tell the story of a classy koala whose theater goes through some tough times. To save it, he organizes an epic singing competition. Reese Witherspoon as a piggy, Scarlett Johansson as a porcupine, and Taron Egerton as a gorilla sound like we’ll have lots of fun with this movie.

5. Captain Underpants

Release: 1/13/2017 Featuring: Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll The Dreamworks movie shows two naughty children who manage to turn their grim principal into a comic character Captain Underpants. It’s worth saying that the kids possess some skills of hypnosis. The principal will be played by Ed Helms.

6. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Release: 11/17/2017 We all remember the legendary Jim Carrey as Grinch 17 years ago. Who will endeavor to do it this time is still a mystery. However, it doesn’t make the upcoming movie less exciting.

7. Gigantic

Release: 2018 Jack and the Beanstalk tale has been shown on the screen many times. Never has the giant been an 11-year-old girl though. Together with Jack, they will unite against a gang of bad giants. If that doesn’t make you excited we don’t know what will.

8. Sherlock Gnomes

Featuring: Johnny Depp, James McAvoy, Emily Blunt Gnomeo and Juliet continue their adventures. James McAvoy and Emily Blunt will make an appearance again. A new take on the classic Sherlock Holmes story is something we’ve all been waiting for. Moreover, Sherlock having the voice of Johnny Depp sounds very promising. Are you excited to see these cartoons in the theaters? They definitely seem like something worth looking forward to.
